End Scene

A woman, tiny in stature but large in spirit, passed from this world to the next a few days ago. I had the privilege to live with her family for two years after college. She left an indellible impression on my life.
This is the deal, people from all over the country are scrambling to make travel plans to attend her funeral and memorial service. She lived a life with a big story.

I’m devouring Donald Miller’s new book “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” and I was reminded of my friend as I read the following passage this morning.
“I wondered how much it costs to be rich in friends and how many years and stories and scenes it takes to make a rich life happen. You can’t build an end scene as beautiful as this by sitting on a couch.”
My friend’s eulogy will be beautiful and she will be remembered by the countless stories she dared enter. The cost?
Time, love, compassion, sleep, courage, determination and fear. Any story exciting enough to tell, has an element of fear. Love is the power that pushes through fear.
How about you? Which stories invite your participation? Will you get off the couch and into the business of creating beautiful stories? If not you, who? If not now, when?

The world awaits your beautiful story!
