"Why Me"
Mary's question pops every Advent. I think it's because it's so familiar to all our stories.
This insidious little question is powered by doubt and fear.
Doubt about talent and capabilities. Fear that we're not good enough, don't have the right pedigree and fear of failure.
I can't because _______________.
The real persona behind this question is the Saboteur.
The Saboteur seeks to block the full expression of our gifts, passions and highest calling.
The Saboteur already knows how you will fill in that blank. Where there is a crack in our confidence he will pry it open when given the opportunity.
There is only one way to deal with the Saboteur.
Make friends with him. Cut the drama with the Saboteur, embrace him and learn from him. He is not all powerful and quite frankly, he can be your ally.
By identifying our fears and doubts and how they limit our possibilities, we are better equipped to denounce them and move forward despite them. If we take a broad view of our life, we can see the patterns of the Saboteur acting out and that knowledge allows us to take back our power and move beyond our fears and doubts.
Mary did not have super powers. She took three simple steps.
1. Called upon her inner courage.
2. Sought inspiration and help from the Spirit.
3. Faced her Saboteur by saying "YES" to the call and taking steps in that direction.
In what areas of your life has the Saboteur appeared?
