FYI: I'm going to be posting daily through Christmas. Not necessarily "coaching" related posts rather posts for pondering, listening, praying.
The Coming!
Christians celebrate Advent which means "coming" in Latin. i.e. the appearance of God on earth, according to Christian belief. Regardless of your faith allegiance join me this "Coming Season" for daily soul food on the journey leading up to Christmas. I'll start where it all began.
Luke 3 A voice of the one calling in the desert, " Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God's salvation."
This passage references a book from Hebrew scripture called Isaiah and is a prophesy that a Messiah (i.e.Savior) would come. Christians believe Jesus was that Savior. Regardless, deep inside each one of us is a desire to be rescued especially when the going gets tough. We want the shadows cast in the valleys to be illuminated, the mountains we are climbing to be lowered and the crooked roads straightened…a desire to get to our destination with no distractions, set backs or fatigue. I wish I could deliver that on a silver platter but I've discovered the mountains are lowered, the valleys filled in and the crooked roads straightened when I accept rather than resist them. "The Coming" is the anticipation that help is on it's way. The HELP allows me to scale the mountains, the enjoy the valleys and maneuver the curves. It's been my experience help does arrive when I'm open, anticipating and keeping watch. That's what "The Coming Season" is all about. Keeping watch for help to arrive.
I've also discovered that this Jesus Christians celebrate is not exclusive to those who call themselves "christians" rather the spirit of Jesus is and always has been available to anyone who calls on the name of Jesus. Just read about his life when he walked on solid ground. He spent his days helping others, who by the way, he was Jewish and the majority of those who were helped did not necessarily share his faith.
So this Coming Season, where in your life could you use some help? Write it down, utter a prayer of help. Don't be afraid to solicit the help of the Spirit of Jesus…he is the Spirit of Christmas and his mission is helping others.
Stay tuned for daily thoughts on this "Coming Season."
